Hypoallergenic Cats and Dogs

If you love animals but have allergies, spring for hypoallergenic pets. While scaly-skinned animals, like iguanas and snake, are the only prove hypoallergenic pets; those who are dead set on furry pets also have numerous choices that are said to be better for pet-lovers with allergies.

1. Chinese Crested Dog – This dog sheds little to no hair, which can lower—but not totally eliminate—allergens at home. Chinese crested comes in two different breeds: hairless, which has hair only on the head, tail, and feet; and powerpuff, which has a soft coat of fur all over the body.

2. Devon Rex Cat – Devon Rex has elfin face, big ears, and a coat of fur that can either be thin, a mop of loose curls, or suede-like. While these cats have dubious reputation about being hypoallergenic, they shed lesser allergens as they get older.

3. Xoloitzcuintli – Like hairless cats, hairless dogs produce lesser skin dander, making it a better pet choice for those who have allergies. This ancient dog breed comes in three different sizes—miniature, toy, and standard.

4. Peruvian Inca Orchid – This breed of dog has very little hair on its feet and tip of the tail, or no hair at all. Like the previous breed, it also comes in three sizes—small, medium, and large, ranging from nine pounds to 55 pounds. However, because this dog has no fur, it has to be protected from cold weather, and sunscreen must be applied to keep the dog’s skin from burning and flaking.

5. Balinese Cat – Sometimes called “longhaired Siamese,” this cat might not be the first you have in mind when talking about least allergenic pet breeds. That perhaps is because to the false impression that cat hair triggers allergic reaction, which isn’t the case. The protein that triggers allergies is present in the cat’s skin oil and saliva, which are then carried to its fur. However, Balinese cats produce lesser Fel D1 protein, which causes allergic reaction in the first place.

These are just five of the better-breed pets for people with allergies.  If you are someone who’s allergic to something and wants to own a cute and fun-loving pet, pick your choice of pet above and cuddle up with it without worrying too much about your allergies.
